For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to work with people and felt fascinated by the spectrum of emotion and the ways we, as humans, respond to life. I was the kind of teenager who would tell you she’s going to be a therapist, and subscribed to Psychology Today magazine at age 16.
Throughout my career, I have counseled families and anxious children in a mental health agency, worked in healthcare for 12 years with stroke patients and those with other health or neurological conditions, provided complex case-management in Niagara and Toronto, taught workshops and therapy trainings, researched and wrote about child maltreatment and recurrence, provided clinical supervision to social workers and psychotherapists, led outpatient stroke caregiver groups, served on clinical assessment teams and various patient-centered committees to improve provision of services in healthcare. I’m thrilled to join the team at Natural Route Health now and provide counselling and hypnotherapy services here.
The unique healing power of therapy can be incredibly helpful in navigating the difficult parts of life, and reconnecting to what’s good. That reconnection element is powerful: What makes you feel the most like you? When was the last time you felt joy, at peace, and confident to embody your full self? What is it that you want to be free from, so you no longer feel held back? Together, we’ll set goals that inspire excitement about the potential you have, and what you can do with your life. Through my own personal journey, I’ve come to know that therapy is absolutely helpful for getting through hard times, but there’s something about getting support when you’re not in crisis mode that can allow for greater insight and deeper change and ultimately support your foundational ability to move through the challenges that we all face in life. I love working with people on their journey of self-discovery and self-development - it looks different for each of us, and I am here to dive as deeply as you desire.
I think of therapy as a courageous and hopeful act towards creating a better life for yourself, and becoming more of who you are at your core. Sometimes my role is to ask questions, and suggest an alternate view. At times, I’ll pull in emotion regulation, the nervous system, or how the subconscious mind works. When the thing that’s needed is a strategy, I’ll walk you through it so that you leave the session with the ability to implement as you need to. And, if we’re using the incredible tools available through hypnosis, then you can expect in me a gentle, skilled facilitator and conduit of healing and change. I work from a trauma-informed and person-centered lens, drawing on attachment, ACT, CBT, and narrative approaches as indicated, informed by my background in neuroscience, hypnotherapy, and holistic health. My overarching therapeutic framework is humanistic: I believe that beauty, awe, tragedy, and everything in between is expressed in human life and that people have the capacity to overcome, heal, and thrive. To me, there's something sacred and inspiring about that.
You can expect a warm, compassionate guide in me. My intention is for you to have the experience of working through your challenges with the support and someone who has your best interest at heart as we collaborate and as you find your own answers. You can count on me for a trusting, honest relationship with someone who believes in you, cares about you, and shows up for you. Sometimes this process of therapy is uncomfortable, other times it’s enjoyable. I like to think that together, we can make it worthwhile. I’m honoured to have a role in helping you create the change you want for yourself, and ultimately, to feel better.
